Here is a sample of the most recent Turkey tour taken in May 2006-
EASTERN TURKEY
Flight from Istanbul to Goreme, Cappadocia. 3 days Cappadocia. Up to the top of Nemrut Dag to see the
amazing Heads at sunrise. 2 nights is spiritual Urfa including a trip to Harran to see the Bee Hive houses and a terrific music night of traditional eastern tunes in a historical saray (palace). On to Mardin a spectucularly unspoilt and scenic stone village on the Mesopotanian plains. A city of 5 ancient languages and home to not only a gourmet cooking school but a 2.5 metre bell boy!
Via historic and beautiful HasanKeyf (due to be flooded) we explored for several hours this village and had a riverside lunch in a cave. Staying on route in Batman we ate at an interesting womens refuge/ restaurant, raising funds for womens' programs. Next day was scenic Lake Van and the Akdamar Island church.
Stayed on the lake and set off to Van fortress with a guide who then advised us to go to the university and see the Van cat breeding program in action. Spontaneous and very interesting. A treat at afternoon tea as we stopped by a beautiful waterfall before arriving in Dogubeyazit and seeing not only amazing amounts of sheperds with sheep but the most glorious snow capped Mount Ararat.
There were wonderful moments in every single day of the last 14 day tour of eastern Turkey. Tailored to the requests of the travelers a cheery group who had mostly traveled in Turkey before, set off into the "unknown" and mostly little explored, non tourist side of Turkey THE EAST. The tour was 14 days priced at $2150 inclusive of hotels, meals, mercedes mini bus professional guides at sites; snacks on the bus, and tip.
